PhD Electrical Engineering Admission

PhD Electrical Engineering deals with the study of designing electronic circuits and how to improve the quality of the electronic circuits for their better performance. It is a 3 to 5-year doctorate degree course that focuses on the basic understanding of mechanical engineering science, various elements of electrical engineering, computer-aided designs, switchgear, embedded systems, etc.

Candidates who want to get a specialization in electronics engineering and have research-oriented technical expertise with a strong rational mind can choose a PhD Electrical Engineering course for their higher degree. Candidates who have completed postgraduate education in electrics and electronic stream are eligible for the course.

They must have passed their examination with at least 55% marks in post-graduation from a recognized university. The PhD Electrical Engineering Admission 2022 is done based on both entrance examination and merit basis. GATE, CSIR and UGC - NET, etc are some of the entrance examinations conducted for getting admission to the course.

PhD Electrical Engineering Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria of the PhD Electrical Engineering course is given as follows

Candidates must have cleared their master's in engineering stream with a minimum percentage of 50% to 60% aggregate marks from a recognized university.

They have core subject combinations in their stream such as electronics and electrical or any other related subjects in their postgraduate level.

Colleges like Top IITs or NITs require higher marks around 65% in post-graduation.

Candidates must have qualified in PhD entrance exams.

Entrance Exams

Different entrance examinations are conducted on both the national level and state level for admission to the PhD Electrical Engineering courses.

Below we have given both the registration date and the exam dates of some of the entrance examinations conducted for admission.

  • GATE
  • UGC-NET

Types of PhD Electrical Engineering Courses

Both full-time and part-time options are available to aspirants for the course. The several PhD Electrical Engineering course types are detailed below:

Full-Time PhD Electrical Engineering

The PhD Electrical Engineering program lasts two years and is full-time. In this subject, practical expertise trumps academic understanding. The advantage of a full-time course is that students can gain much more exposure, experience, and knowledge through close contact with other students and teachers. PhD Electrical Engineering is a semester full-time program.

Part-Time PhD Electrical Engineering

Students who are unable to attend regular classes should enrol in the part-time PhD Electrical Engineering course. The program lasts for three years. The benefit of taking a part-time course is that students can do so while also working, going to school, etc. Some institutions offer part-time or distance learning PhD Electrical Engineering programs.

Distance PhD Electrical Engineering

The distance PhD Electrical Engineering programme for 3 years is not provided in colleges/institutions because some colleges can’t able to provide long-distance learning for any students.
